@pnuw Interesting story on this one: “Pete Townshend had largely finished Tommy, then played it for critic Nik Cohn. Cohn thought it was a bit heavy. Townshend knew Cohn loved pinball, so he came up with the idea that Tommy should be brilliant at pinball, which led to “Pinball Wizard.” Townshend later said this also helped lighten the opera’s heavy spiritual side”
