@trentmcnitt I saw your post on the devmke slack. πŸ‘‹ I'm local to the north shore.
@joe Hey, Joe! This is my firstessage on mastadon I think. Any tips for getting to most out of this platform? It looks like you are pretty deep into it

@trentmcnitt The big difference between Mastodon and Threads or Twitter is that Mastodon doesn't have an algorithm. It means you need to follow a lot more people (I follow hundreds), and you are expected to boost content you find interesting.

@rasterweb once had a list of Milwaukee-based Fedizens. You can also follow #Milwaukee to find some local stuff.

Figure out people with similar interests and start going through who they follow. You should be able to find interesting folks here.

@joe @trentmcnitt A note: many folks here are not fans of AI (myself included) so just be aware of that. (Figure it might be worth a warning.)
@rasterweb @trentmcnitt Well-crafted keyword filters can help with that, though. 😜
@rasterweb @joe πŸ‘€ that's a great note. Is it all things AI? Or just the slop that currently floods every platform and repo that bothers folks?
@trentmcnitt @joe For some folks it’s all AI. Lots of software devs are forced to use it at work and hate it. I’d say almost everyone hates the slop of course.
