I gave installing Gentoo a try in a VM few days ago, and honestly I feel like the installer is either poorly-designed or hard on purpose to feed elitism. I can handle chroot installs if the manual is good, but the manual is not good, there's no automation of the install process, and at one point, while you're in the live environment, you literally have to navigate to a website to download crucial files. Isn't that what package managers are for? It dramatically increases the difficulty of using the non-graphical installer as well. And I guess you can just say this is a case of "mad 'cause bad", I did fail both installation attempts, but still, kinda a shame that such a cool distro in concept is out of reach for me
