I think I've asked this before but how do drummers mime playing the drums?

Actually, how do you mime acoustic instruments?

How?

@lydiaconwell
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but maybe imagining holding something and imagining a surface and banging the tip of that something into the surface?
@Goodlucksil I meant while actually holding the instrument as you see regularly on TV programmes.
@lydiaconwell I *think* they sometimes have special heavy cymbals that don't make much of a sound but other than that they must just carry on as normal?
@internetsdairy I imagine pretending to do heavy rock drumming would be a real art form!
@lydiaconwell just looked this up as it's something I wondered about before: basically rubber pads on drum heads, modified cymbals, I guess pedals with springs removed, so you would play as normal but not make very much of a sound. I guess acoustic instruments would sound as normal but overall, everything would be quiet enough to get overwhelmed by the pa, so the live audience will just hear that, and also won't bleed into the vocal mic if the vocals are live
@internetsdairy I wonder if other instruments have dampeners too. Acoustic instrument are quite loud.
@internetsdairy I could have looked it up myself too, but often there are people on Fedi who've done that sort of thing and will have insider knowledge.
@lydiaconwell you end up with a stage where you just hear drums and backing track. Drummers ate terrible mimers.
