Not at all hard to believe… by their very nature and design, mines are easy to deploy in quantity and hard to detect. This is why mines are such a terrible military technology that really represents a ‘scorched earth’ approach to warfare. They always cause far more collateral damage (for decades after) than they even do in an actual war.
