Beloved by Italians, who often call it "the most beautiful in the world," the Constitution of the Republic was drafted between 1946 and 1948 through painstaking compromise among Catholics, Communists, Socialists and Liberals from the anti-fascist camp, who triumphed over Mussolini's regime, from which Meloni's political lineage descends.

Giorgia Meloni and the defeat of ideology

The Constitution – today defended by very young voters long neglected and distrustful of political parties – addresses today's anxieties. Article 3 proclaims the Republic's duty "to remove the economic and social obstacles which, by limiting the freedom and equality of citizens, prevent the full development of the human person and the effective participation of all workers in the political, economic, and social organization of the country."
Its popular Article 11 rejects "war as an instrument of aggression against the freedom of other peoples and as a means for settling international disputes."
