Admittedly, my first "exposure" to them was a skit "Crop of the Flops" on the old "The Two Ronnies" UK TV show in the 1980's. I thought back then it was something made-up for the show. Just in the past few years, thanks to internet, found out "Chas and Dave" were a real thing.
