Judge orders pause on signature validation process for Alberta independence petition | CBC News

A judge has granted a month-long stay preventing Alberta’s chief electoral officer from certifying the results of a petition to force a referendum on a proposal for Alberta to separate from Canada.

CBC
@EdwinG I think the correct wording is a stay on certifiying the petition until First Nation's cases against it is decided.
(the deadline for votes in in May and this continues, the govt is prevented from certifying that the petition has or not reached the number of signatures required. But sgnatures still being received and counted.
@jfmezei Possibly, but I really chose to reuse the title to avoid giving my own position on it :)

@EdwinG
First sentence of actual article:
A judge has granted a month-long stay preventing Alberta’s chief electoral officer from certifying the results of a petition to force a referendum on a proposal for Alberta to separate from Canada.

So the headline is really bad.
