🔒 SIGNAL SECURITY SETTINGS 🔒
Hey folks - Please take a minute to update your settings and pass this on. You may have seen this article from 404 Media going around on your Signal threads today. Wanted to share some up-to-date information about how we can help keep each other safer.

📍 SITUATION: Cops in the Prairieland case used tools to extract the internal iPhone notification log. This had the names and content for all incoming Signal messages the person had received. This applied only to incoming messages, and it was possible even when disappearing messaged were turned on. This isn't a flaw in Signal, but a weakness in how the phone stores past notifications. Signal is not compromised!

🛡 WHAT YOU CAN DO: To prevent this, go to: Signal > Profile picture > Settings > Notifications > Notification Content > Select "No Name or Content" — The lack of notification information may be annoying, but it helps keep us all safer. (Don't disable notifications entirely in your system settings or you won't be able to receive incoming Signal calls.)

🔒 OTHER SIGNAL SECURITY SETTINGS: Our conversations are only as secure as our devices. Signal is very secure but we need to configure it well (disappearing messages, etc) and make sure our device is secure (strong passcode, biometrics off, up-to-date software, etc.). This is a great moment to take 15 minutes and do this Signal security checklist: https://activistchecklist.org/signal/

📣 SPREAD THE WORD: Signal is also only as secure as all the phones of the people we're organizing with. If one person has weak settings, they could reveal the messages of everyone they are communicating with. What can you do about that? Two things: 1) Forward this message along to your groups. 2) Host a security party. Spend an hour going through some of the guides on https://activistchecklist.org/ Bring treats. Make it fun.
