Long tail. On the #DailyWalk yesterday, I saw this medium-sized hawk flying over the pasture. Not many details are clear in this silhouette, but what a tail!
I think it's probably a Cooper's hawk, or possibly a Sharp-shinned hawk.
My bird book is pretty old, and it has the Cooper's and Sharp-shinned in the same genus. I just learned that the Cooper's has been placed in a different genus. Nevertheless, the Cooper's and the Sharp-shinned look very similar (especially when flying past in low light...).
