And it's not us that the media is “shielding”, which means “protecting”.
It's Trump. By not making it clear how much his “blathering” is a cover for co-opting the machinery of the state for his personal power and wealth, they are covering up massive crimes, from war crimes to embezzlement.
The people still prepared to vote for him know he's a liar, but they're OK with that. They need to know how that serves his purpose of ripping them off; that they're not “supporters” but dupes. Victims.
