I don't live like this. I can't imagine why anyone would. I know people actually do, but it just seems so horrible.

I eschew "smart" devices (thermostat, fridge, etc), or avoid hooking them up to the internet if I must have them (clothes dryer, tv).

I don't own a car, because cars are awful. My bikes require regular maintenance, but I enjoy that and could take to a mechanic instead if I wanted.

My phone is a pain in the ass, but at least it runs free software. My laptop is nice.

I would love to replace my phone with an mp3 player (I can make/receive calls on my laptop), but I need to be available to the rest of the family. But maybe when the kids move out?
@Andres4NY My first cell phone was a nokia that wasn't constantly notifying me about something and didn't know where I was. Drafting a brief text took me 5 minutes. I'm very nostalgic about it.
