Does someone here have opinions on salt based batteries? For home use with #photovoltaics on the roof.

I found https://www.salzstrom.com/category/all-products which seems to be as available as the lithium ones. Prices are also not that far off.

Much longer lifetime as well as not being lithium based seem to be a huge benefit.

@fink So glad to see na-ion catching on. It was clear that this would happen ever since it was proven viable some years ago - just a matter of time. Finally… this time seems to be „now“. There are even the first grid-scale projects in the US-Midwest.
@nblr @fink I saw them in the shop in normal AA and AAA sizes a while ago, but somehow they seem to have disappeared again.
I didn't notice a difference to normal ones, but well, I was using them only for clocks and kids toys.
@fink I'm also very interested in hearing opinions on this topic!
On paper, it sounds great—from what I understand, it stores less energy per unit of weight, but with much lower safety risks.
I'd love to hear from someone with real hands-on experience.
@fink hmm @tserong has something in his blog not sure how easy that translates to European solutions

@sandzwerg @fink I actually haven't looked at the salt based batteries myself. I was previously using zinc bromide flow batteries (see long series of posts at https://ourobengr.com/tag/redflow/) but redflow who made them went bust. I now have two stacks of three pylontech pelios (LiFePo4, so, yeah, lithium...) which I will write about in due course (they went in on February 16).

I note that there seem to be options to purchase those salt batteries with Victron inverter/charger gear, and I'm 100% happy to recommend the Victron kit - that's what I have here and previously used with the Redflow batteries, and now use with the pylontech batteries. The great thing is that they work with many types of battery, so if you have to switch to different batteries, you can, without ripping out your whole system.
