Filters are a powerful feature here on Mastodon (not too sure about other fediverse platforms!), but they can definitely be made even more useful.

Something like this https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/9177 would be great for making "filter starter packs", for example "News Filters" with common news-related hashtags, keywords, and popular news site domains.

On fediverse content warnings and filters | Stefan Bohacek

Content warnings are a useful tool. And very divisive.

@stefan Oh shit, TIL that putting a content warning or marking a post sensitive _keeps a post from showing up on the explore/Discover_ in Mastodon.

That’s, actually a really good feature (if you’ve ever seen people on BlueSky asking to NEVER be featured on the “Discover” feed)

Thanks for the article!

@Wraithe Posts that are "quiet public" are already "hidden" from trending posts (and search, etc), though, so we already have that feature.

I do get the reasoning behind not allowing CW-ed posts to trend, but the way some people use CWs, I wonder how many expect this behavior.

Maybe there should be a note when you apply CW explaining this? I wonder how this would impact the usage.
