Il ne sera finalement pas possible de louer son logement sur Airbnb à Montréal durant le week-end de la Formule 1, fin mai. La mairesse conservera dans l’immédiat le règlement de sa prédécesseure qui proscrit les locations à court terme sauf l’été, mais prépare une réforme complète pour l’automne, a appris La Presse.

@EdwinG Yup, keep banning short term rentals for whatever reason. They’ve distorted the housing market for decades now, slowly tightening the screws and making it increasingly unprofitable will bring balance back to the housing market without shocking the system and causing a crash.

@damien Considering that people are being gouged $1800/month for their small rental apartment, yes.

The regular housing market prices were pushed up by Airbnb-caused scarcity.

@driusan @EdwinG I guess depends if you look from the perspective of someone visiting for the race weekend (of personal interest to me), or if you want to live there as a resident.

Local residents should always take priority over tourism IMO, so if this move was to help residents, it sounds like a positive thing to me (despite that it might also make it more impossible for me to visit).
