I don't agree with Tony Abbott on much, but this seems like a good question:

"If Ben Roberts-Smith transgressed, why wasn’t this picked up prior to his gallantry awards and why wasn’t any culture of brutality towards prisoners detected by his more senior officers, and dealt with quickly, rather than being allowed to fester, as has been alleged, for over a decade?"

I think Tony might be making a different point, but I don't see a lot of reporting about how that sort of person can get our highest military honour?

@dbdean The military is rife with "that sort of person" in my opinion. Let's face it. They sign on the dotted line voluntarily, to kill whoever their superiors tell them to without question. "Enemies" are dehumanised, racism and misogyny are encouraged. All under the highly dubious umbrella of "defending our country". Which, since 1945, is nonsense.
I'd bet you London to a brick that BRS isn't our only living war criminal.
Years ago, a neighbour of mine was an alcoholic (aren't they all?) Vietnam veteran. He was recruited in prison. I got to know him. He told me that they murdered ten and twelve year old boys, "POWs", suspected of being Viet Cong.
That's military culture. I simply cannot respect them.
