My youngest kid (nonbinary, 18+, years of cafe experience at school cafe, catering certificate) is looking for a Brisbane #BNE hospitality job, anyone know cafes with vacancies where Mx 18 might get #fedihired and not told they only hire MAGA-face Stepford Servers? (Their longterm goal is furniture making if you happen to have any leads on *that*) <3
@Unixbigot ah furniture making. A dream I’ve also had, but not one likely to happen

@coriolisdave @Unixbigot My brother teaches furniture making and various wood working skills around that.

You might want to talk to him (or sign up for a course) about options for where you might be able to get into such... (or what sort of training options would be good)

@Unixbigot @coriolisdave He is also in Adelaide and might not be available right now for discussions.... but by all means, drop him an email and see what he suggests, or who he suggests you talk to
@coriolisdave @Unixbigot He used to be based at Cooroy so he would be familiar with Brisbane options too
@Unixbigot guessing your youngest listens to 4zzz - I’d be checking out their subscriber discount outlets for friendly hirers and enquiring to them.
@Unixbigot There's a nonbinary games thing that 4zzz regularly advertises - a pinball/gaming thing at a friendly venue.
Getting out to stuff like that and chatting with folk who go there could yield fruit and or friends too :)

@Unixbigot re: furniture making - it's worth doing the research - I think there's one in detroit - but places that make furniture out of junk/discards such as pallets abound. Worth checking the library for whatever floats their boat eg: https://www.quarto.com/books/9780760368596/the-new-pallet-book
There was a mid century modern design book where a cash strapped designer made their own bed out of pallets which looked amazing.
Unemployed? Might be worth doing NEIS to get off the standard payment, and do furniture as a business.
