You might want to talk to him (or sign up for a course) about options for where you might be able to get into such... (or what sort of training options would be good)

@Unixbigot re: furniture making - it's worth doing the research - I think there's one in detroit - but places that make furniture out of junk/discards such as pallets abound. Worth checking the library for whatever floats their boat eg: https://www.quarto.com/books/9780760368596/the-new-pallet-book
There was a mid century modern design book where a cash strapped designer made their own bed out of pallets which looked amazing.
Unemployed? Might be worth doing NEIS to get off the standard payment, and do furniture as a business.
