My least hopeless job market has proved to be museums. They have however repeatedly complained that I have no formal museum training, only decades of hands-on experience in the stores.

I had an idea. Maybe I should ask the Employment Office to fund an academic year for me at museum curator school.

@mrundkvist From my experience of unemployment that could actually work as at two year mark, there is a increase in what actions is available to your unemployment admin. However, I also know that it is much easier to get access to such stuff at the smaller Unemployment Offices out in the countryside, in Stockholm they are sticklers for stuff.

Gear up with A Lot of good arguments. I tried the same with the course I'm finishing this semester. They said no on the grounds that the industry I'm training for (storyboarding for computer games - among other things) was in balance. The people handling the applications focus on the job market statistics, so it's hard to convince them to make an exception. I'm still convinced it's possible, so try to slot your arguments into that reality.

The *rational* thing for them to do with me would be to retrain me as a bus driver.

Oh, they tried that one with me 😅 I was randomly getting a tip about a work fair with a lot of good prospects. Turned out it was a bunch of companies who needed drivers for heavy machinery (including buses). Unfortunately I don't have a driver's license 🤷🏻‍♀️
