Just put LineageOS on my phone. My phone's a bit on the old side and hadn't gotten any security updates in two years, and no feature updates for some time before that.
Now suddenly I'm rocking Android 16, with all the cool new features and security patches (except the kernel bc it has proprietary stuff only Samsung can update), and all it cost me was time! I feel like I could keep using my phone for a long time this way.

I'm also pleasantly surprised that all apps I use work perfectly with MicroG instead of Google Play Services. I heard that things like banking apps tend to break without Google, but mine (SNS bank) seems to work perfectly. Other stuff like DigiD (Dutch online authentication for government/healthcare/banking related stuff) works without any problems.

Note that you *can* install google play services, I just didn't want to because I want to ditch as much Google stuff as possible.

It's also very nice that all the Samsung bloat is gone.

Only downside is that I did all this while procrastinating something I really need to do for university.
@trogluur another downside. For native phone calls you need 2g or 3g now. They are still provided in the Netherlands?
@Kurt Just tested it and voice calls seem to be working fine for me on 4G (mobile voice network type and mobile data network type both say 4G and I'm able to make a call). Where did you get this information?
@trogluur linked from each samsung device:

@Kurt Huh. It must be falling back to 3G calls then, which are still supported in the Netherlands.
@Kurt Kind of strange that it does claim the "mobile voice network type" is 4G in settings. I don't know what it means then.
