Released 40 years ago this week, New Order's 'Blue Monday' (hear the original EP version here) became, according to the BBC, 'a crucial link between Seventies disco and the dance/house boom that took off at the end of the Eighties.' If you frequented a dance club during the 1980s, you know the song.

@openculture This is the New Order track that would have made Ian Curtis proud, I think. In many ways very different from Joy Division but it still stands as a testament to the group's determination to continue on in spite of his death. Maybe they didn't think much of it when they were making it (I don't know.. they reportedly weren't keen on "5 8 6" either) but this stands the test of time. Both for themselves as New Order and as a legacy to Ian and Joy Division.
