these people are truly deluded.

in the “let’s promise ‘em something we don’t care about so they will vote for us” column, abortion is the big deal breaker with a lot of people. it’s not an exclusively catholic issue, but it’s a big one. it was at the heart of the “southern strategy”. which is to say it is possibly the ONLY reason a lot of people voted for trump.

of the many people who conform to one of the 5,000 subcategories of catholic but have their primary identity tied up in that label, abortion would no longer be a deal breaker.

how are they going to take on the church? steal the wealth? bomb the vatican? it would mean declaring war on “proper” europe. (Is it wrong of me to say that? I think it might be a common perception)

vatican is an independent state, but a major slice of italy’s gdp, surely?

@maudenificent i reckon it's fair to say it's consistent with the principles that're substantiating everything they do but they spelled it out with the 'military power to do whatever it wants' comment
