  • #Renga #連歌 (linked poetry) consists of poets composing alternating verses of 5–7–5 and 7–7 beats or morae (not syllables).
  • One poet begins with a 5–7–5 verse, followed by another poet’s 7–7 response.
  • Additional poets may then join, continuing the alternating 5–7–5 and 7–7 pattern.

A number of us haiku types in the Boston Metro West started meeting up once a month to collaborate on a 24-link renku.

Raffael DeGruttola became ill, and I moved to Cape Cod, pretty much putting an end to our little group, but it was sure fun while it lasted. I'm thrilled to watch a similar spirit take form spontaneously.

@NaraMoore @extraspecialbitter I’ve been pondering renga for some time. Never put the wheels in motion until yesterday. I like the concept. (And just learned renku = haiku no renga, which undereducated me has been calling renga).

There is also Katauta, which preceded renga.

What @extraspecialbitter and I have exchanged is often closer to that.
