Midnight Commander (mc) is 32 years old and still such a pleasant and useful little tool.
@frederic "little" is relative. In the beginning mc was known as "monster on the console" and was considered bloatware.
@frederic still the first tool I install on a new system

@frederic I love that it keeps evolving and getting better, without breaking my muscle memory for its many useful little features.

We now have 16M color themes. Free space estimates. Better use of kernel buffers when copying files to Samba NAS. Meanwhile comparing directories ignoring mtime, mass-rename leveraging glob patterns, file search results as a virtual folder -- it all still works, using same shortcuts.

@frederic I still don't understand how mcview’s PDF rendering is so much better than pdftotext’s.
@frederic
Yes but by the life of me I don't know how to handle terminal completion with tab key
@frederic only 32!? I remember installing it in the late 90's and having the impression that it was one of those tools that had been around forever!
@frederic @leyrer mc can even manage s3 buckets xP
