#JustFinished 1632 by Eric Flint

I read it on the recommendation of one of the other book club members, even though I'm sick to death of military sci-fi and the glorification of war. It had elements I enjoyed (multiple PoV, strong women) and some I didn't (chauvinism, too simple characters). Mostly though, it felt too narrative and too rooted in macho behavior, though Flint clearly struggles to temper that. I won't be continuing the series.

@DejahEntendu I just finished this myself! Similar thoughts overall. I wonder what a 2026 retelling of this might produce: so much of the narrative was steeped in late 90s capitalism and culture.

I listened to the audiobook, and George Guidall can make the blandest narrative worth sticking with.

I dunno if I'd be that interested in a rewrite. It would still basically be a military sci-fi book since they were dropped into the Thirty Years War.
@DejahEntendu Hear me out: a bunch of modern community-minded anti-capitalist social activists get sent back, instead of gun-loving blue collar folks.  ðŸ˜…

I thought about this one for a while. There's only so much willing suspension of disbelief I can muster!
