If you like #AngineDePoitrine, what else would you recommend?

I'm seeing a lot of references to Gentle Giant, King Crimson, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard.

I'm slowly trying new ADP, don't want to exhaust it too soon. I get initially thrown by the surprises in the new songs, then my brain catches on, and learns the rhythm, and it's good, but still want to draw out the surprises.

This concert in Québec, 29th December 2025, was apparently performed in a brisk -23°C.

The guy is wearing a thin polka dot sheet and has bare feet. 🥶 In awe of his temperature indifference. 😮

For myself, none of the below are very much like ADP, but if you like the microtones:
Nadia — Jeff Beck
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drAv2FoYji8
Which is a cover of:
Nadia — Nitin Sawhney
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jJJHfL1yQA?t=170

If you like 4 sliding over 3 sliding over 2:
Woodpecker From Mars — Faith No More
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TIRxgi_5uo
Or maybe slipping into 7 or 9, their Malpractice.

Or many many Soundgarden songs, I really like Matt Cameron playing in Soundgarden.

If you like syncopation and triplets:
Train Of Consequences — Megadeth

If you like polyrhythyms and dissonance:
Manifest — Sepultura

(First 30s is pretty straightforward, but gets hairier the further in you go.)

@mediaevalfishsandwich Those are a good start. My brain connects them to Primus, Battles, and a little-known UK duo called Cleft.

@sanityinc oh Primus, yes, I'll have to look up the other two! 🙏

IIRC that was one of the comments on the KEXP video "Primus ran so ADP could run".

@mediaevalfishsandwich I really like "Tales from the Punchbowl" fwiw

@mediaevalfishsandwich In my effort to find more Angine De Poitrine -esque music, I kind of stumbled upon the math rock genre and tried a variety of artists. I haven't really found something that scratches that specific itch, but did find an album that I've come to love: Spiderland by Slint.

It's a lot darker in tone (much darker hahah), quite different, but I think it does contain that aspect of changing and unexpected rhythms. I can't stop listening to it.

@reading_recluse oh interesting, did you mention ADP before? 🤯

Alright I'm gonna check Slint out as well. 🙏
