Of all the outcomes I had anticipated, this one escaped my notice - that the US would agree a ceasefire that leaves them in a weaker position than before they began this unnecessary and Ill-advised war. All the loss of life, the consolidation of Iran's position against the "Great Satan", the cost to the US in arms, personnel, embassies and other real estate in the area and reputation - all for nothing. Ranks with Suez as a humiliation if I read it correctly.
