New hydroponics experiment. Turned an existing fountain/pond into a solar powered recirculating hydroponics tank. The A/C pump only runs during the day when the solar shed is producing extra watts, powered by an inverter controlled by a Shelly switch. Many koi in the fountain, producing way too much fish poop. #hydroponics
@ai6yr oh tomatoes.I had to look twice 😂
@MaxUK Well, here in California, you could definitely grow weed (although perhaps not in this setup, it can't be visible from the street. 🙄 ). I wouldn't do that myself, though it's the same technique, because marijuana makes me totally paranoid, and I'm already paranoid enough!

@ai6yr serious question: if your clay balls don’t float constantly, what did you do to stop them?

For the past couple of years, I’ve tried a flood and drain table, and the damn things always float. They say they shouldn’t, but they do, even after letting them soak for days, they still float

#hydroponics

@jonathankoren They always float. The water level here is set so that the weight of the upper balls (above water!) keeps the lower balls pinned down. You can't fill so much your plant starts to float.

@ai6yr

How much outdoor space do you have?

You've got a lot of plant experiments going on?

@alienghic Just a standard 1970's suburban area lot (which is more than any modern lot, but nothing compared to homes in the 50's and 60's).

@ai6yr

Looks down on my 8 x 25 ' patio.

Sounds like a lot of space!

@alienghic Oh yeah, for sure. i think it's 1/3 of an acre, but mostly unusable hill (well, attempting to grow trees there, but they are not happy)
