The soil is warming up quickly. 11°C-12°C up from 8°C a week ago.

Water infiltration tests carried out on the growing beds have shown a couple of beds have issues. I wouldn’t have guessed the differences.

Water infiltration results ranged from 3 mins 28 seconds (rye grass green manures) to 14 minutes 41 seconds (mulching compost) on a colder, shaded bed.

@Broadfork intuitively it makes sense that the green manure beds have better filtration, due to root penetration at the very least

@carolannie Yes, and having living roots in the soil for longer also means they have been actively feeding the soil biology for longer too.

Nonetheless it’s interesting to see the differences in times.

Two beds were very slow in comparison and will get a little extra remedial help before the growing season starts so it was worthwhile to do.
