@pluralistic I have long been of the opinion that anything that is a natural monopoly should be either owned by the state or (preferably) collectively. Electric lines, fiber, cable, landlines (assuming those still exist) all should be owned by an entity that can't compete in the space and provides access to the infrastructure to everybody offering the service at a set price.
