Barack Obama’s approach to the Syrian Civil War was defined by a tension between his desire to avoid another "quagmire" in the Middle East and the pressure to intervene in a mounting humanitarian crisis. His actions are generally categorized into three major phases: the "Red Line" controversy, the arming of rebels, and the military campaign against ISIS.
This is what they always do when forced to acknowledge their leader is insane. What about Obama? What about Biden? It is not the same.
The foreign policy of Trump is all about maximum pressure, forced capitulation, and imposing crippling economic sanctions to coerce stricter deals. Obama focused on multilateralism, creating coalitions to bring countries like Iran to a long term diplomatic solution (the JCPOA, for instance).
Here is the problem with the maximum pressure route: We are not the world police. Countries like Iran have sovereignty, and it needs to be their choice to cooperate. That is why it is important to incentivize them, not cause them to agree out of fear.
Yes, Obama used the military when he thought it was necessary. We were at war when he took office, and he wanted to end those wars. I don't think what he did with drones was right, but it was a whole lot better to strike strategically instead of engaging in all out war. Trump was fortunate in his second term that Biden had ended our final ongoing conflicts.
Every president since Nixon considered action against Iran, and every single one backed down for the exact same reason: triggering the closure of the Strait of Hormuz is geopolitical suicide. We knew exactly what would happen. Trump wasn't bolder than his predecessors. He was the first one shortsighted enough to actually do it.
He's mentally incompetent and needs to be removed from office immediately. Any soldiers following his orders are war criminals and must face justice.
