I went to see an exhibition in #Hamburg today advertised as "from Herakles to Superman". I foolishly assumed there would be some discussion of the elements that make a modern hero vs the ancient Greek heros, similarities & differences between Greek heroes & US-American superheroes, and how heroes reflect society. But the exhibitors decided to make 1 room about US superheroes and 1 room about Greek gods and call it a day. No context. No discussion. And even AI generated images. WTF was the point?
@AimeeMaroux footfall. As a museum, they live or die on footfall.
@AimeeMaroux what the fuck
@DrJLecter When my friend mentioned that the images used to "liven up" the text boxes look AI generated I looked a little closer and found one with only 4 fingers, thus confirming the suspicion. And AI generated images immediately raise my suspicion about the text as well.
@AimeeMaroux ugh that's so unbelievably awful. The idea of the exhibition sounded great, but so disappointed in how it was executed.
@DrJLecter I know! I was really interested in the idea because I know a lot about mythological heroes but very little about US-American superheroes. I might use my disappointment to write an article on the topic featuring all the easy things the exhibitors couldn't be arsed to do but I'd rather have had an exciting and inspiring exhibition.
@AimeeMaroux if you get around to writing it, I'd love to read it 💜😍 but yeah, you shouldn't need to do it cos that was the exhibition's job 😑

@AimeeMaroux

sounds disappointing !

and #AI generated imagery in #museums is questionable - but at least put a label on it ! - and provide some context …

@wigbert They disclosed the AI generated images that were part of an AI generated comic "art project" but they did not label the images in the exhibition that were supposed to decorate the text boxes. I am pretty confident that they are AI generated because some of the figures have just 4 fingers.
