Vance is there to attack the EU, which cut off some funds in a fairly weak protest at Orban's dismantling of democracy in Hungary. Defending democracy is "election interference" according to Vance, as he campaigns for Orban. They like the authoritarianism and want it for America.

As much as he is there to endorse Orban, Vance is there to attack the EU. The EU, he says, should be more like Orban, i.e. dependent on Russia for energy and willing to sell out other democracies to appease Putin. www.theguardian.com/world/live/2...
