The museum in Reggio Calabria probably used Google Translate on some of their info placards; one of them said that the coins on display were "jokes from 300 BC". The Italian text read "battute a partire da 300 a.C."
Battute is the past tense of battere, to strike; it is however also the plural of una battuta, a joke.
