There are only a few places online where people can gather and interact that _isn't_ massively tipping the scales in favor of AI. But there's no secret cabal of terminally online posters coordinating harassment campaigns to keep AI fans out. (As a terminally online poster, I feel like I would know) It's just that they're not popular here. Which is, actually, extremely predictable. They are artificially supported everywhere else, so if course this space has a higher proportion of members who are less than interested.

So, if we're an unusually tough crowd, it's because they did a bunch of crowd manipulation most everywhere else. And if they can't handle a tough crowd, that is no reason to suggest doing that same crowd manipulation here. 🤷‍♀️

And even just from a commercial, product perspective, why would you want to. The lack of that manipulation is mastodons only really distinguishing feature. If you take that away, it's just a crappy Twitter clone
@jenniferplusplus and even if you could successfully manipulate a post's popularity, that's it. It's not exactly account level notoriety or algorithms to keep it going.
@mayintoronto @jenniferplusplus This is literally why they keep spreading the narrative that fedi has failed. It's not easily bent to their will. Despite all of the propaganda about AI for the past nearly four years, the sentiment here remains reality based.
@reflex @mayintoronto @jenniferplusplus Add to that, that for their metrics, fedi has failed. They want a culture like twitter, like threads, like bluesky, where the corporations, celebrities, and anyone blessed by them lead and others follow, and it turns out the average fedi citizen is just not into that.
