By looking again for info about hardware I own, TIL my Taxan 410-64 RGB card in my Apple IIe will only display double-hires in monochrome - I already had observed that behavior (see quoted post, RGB monitor is top-right) but now I have confirmation. I'm only slightly disappointed as the image is still really good.
