super cool how sourcehut and codeberg are constantly targeted by ddos attacks, i too fucking hate when people use git forges that, uh, aren't being made worse because their corporate overlords are shoving "ai" down our collective gullets

SourceHut disrupted due to DDoS attack | sr.ht status

SourceHut is being disrupted by a DDoS attack. Over the holidays SourceHut experienced a DDoS attack primarily targetting git.sr.ht. For a period of several hours we experienced severe performance issues and intermittent outages as a result, primarily affecting git.sr.ht. Our upstream network provider identified the malicious traffic and blackholed the appropriate routes, but due to a configuration error SourceHut’s AMS subnet was entirely null routed for a period of about one hour yesterday, causing a complete outage for all services. Once the configuration error was corrected, the DDoS continued to cause performance issues that primarily affected git.sr.ht, until the attack died down later yesterday afternoon.

extra super cool that the practical solution would be to give cloudflare a bunch of money (that these services don't have) because somehow it's the only company that can deal with this shit, which definitely isn't weird at all

"foss is about giving people choices"

"well thank god i can pick between a thousand desktop environments, a dozen init systems, and a bunch of bootloaders. say, i have this code i'd like to share, where should i put it?"

"github"

"anywhere else?

"no"

"okay. well i also have this website i would like to stay online without A) constantly being knocked over by teenage dipshits and/or fascist bigots or B) being scraped by 'ai' crawlers"

"you can sign up for cloudflare"

"or...?"

(yes, i know there are technically other options. i would like to use them! but there is absolutely no denying that the path of least resistance is to use these services, especially when alternatives are constantly taken down, worked around, etc. because—and i'm sure this is a coincidence—of constant ddos attacks and other bullshit)
