@mewho They replicate an entirely new turbolift car every time one is needed and one isn't already close by. That's why sometimes there's someone already in a turbolift, and why it never takes very long, but it almost always takes *some* time. Once there's nobody in the turbolift anymore it gets dematerialised again. Saves enormously on cleaning.
