“Oh no, people don’t like my bullshit here, in the open space I can set up any server I wish at all at any time, with little to no technical boundaries! quod erat demonstratum, it is _they_ who are wrong and I am being unfairly impinged! *pout*”

Go make your prompt-friendly server, Scott! It can host as many promptfans as you desire it to have! The rest of the network does not owe you followers or fawning https://social.coop/@scottjenson/116352800579635299

As this conversation is spiraling a bit I want to make a few things clear: 1. I'd like Mastodon to be MORE inclusive and bring in more voices 2. Some people don't seem to want that 3. This is core problem to solve: How do we let more in, but not "pollute" your feed? 4. The solution is NOT "gatekeeping", revelling in the fact that AI journalists aren't welcome 5. This is the same reason we lost "Black Twitter" when it came over in 2022 Yes, a lot of you don't want AI posts in your feed (or pick any other topic) but the solution isn't to keep "AI People" from joining Mastodon, any more than it is keeping marginalized communities off of Mastodon.

Nvm that points 1 through 5 speedran bad faith so hard I wanted to ask which GDQ category it belonged in

@froztbyte it's interesting to see, in the post before this, how the person references "the Mastodon team". the semantics are still within the realm of centralized technology. the premise is still that a central authority is dictating the behaviour across the ecosystem.

the idea that several heterogenous communities all reject a technology, a perspective, a discourse can only be explained if they're all told to do so. it can't be that they have autonomy.

@catileptic indeedy

and I don't know whether people have seen but this guy is supposedly occupying some kind of senior advisor position to mastodon-the-company (which means that his words have _some_ weight/impact over there)

can't wait to see how weakly this gets rolled back! betting a tenner on a "y'all just misunderstood me"

@froztbyte @catileptic

I may be overreacting but the starting point "I'd like Mastodon to be MORE inclusive and bring in more voices" from that person sounds "I want my friends in brown shirts at your bar"-like.

@catileptic shit I lost the tenner

@froztbyte it's not bad that he decided to take the route of admitting some "mea culpa". hope to see that more often. good for him. doesn't auto-magically make him an angel, but it's genuinely good to see that he didn't double-down.

the essence, i think, of the reaction in this thread (and elsewhere) continues existing even if he admits he phrased things poorly. the essence is: real autonomy is going to result in the privileged losing the privilege to feel welcome & validated in every space.

@catileptic yup. his responses are ... moderately self-reflective, and I am willing to see how that stance ... reflects/evolves over coming days

(the guy's been doing a lot of AI-flavour posting for quite a bit so I'm not instantly convinced, but I am willing to be convinced by change over time)

@froztbyte @catileptic "only using AI as an example"
@catileptic @froztbyte he is apparently "Product Strategy Advisor to Mastodon Core team" though, so he has to refer to them somehow.
@froztbyte 'This platform is an echo chamber!' yells person frustrated that the system on Mastodon isn't rigged to force people to have to listen to their bad takes the way it is on their preferred platforms.
@Rycochet "why am I getting ratioed so hard" I post, tears in my eyes
@froztbyte 'ChatGPT thinks my takes are witty and insightful, so why don't you?!'
@Rycochet @froztbyte I want to regurgitate press releases all day, into the feeds of people who don't need or want to hear them. I want to write "CEO says $THING" instead of doing research. And most importantly also not have anyone tell me I am not a real journalist. Is this too much to ask?

@froztbyte

Oh dear lord. He apparently has thought to himself, "Dig up! Dig up!!"

OK, this is going even MORE sideways so I need to make a few things clear: 1. I took a complex point and made it poorly 2. My goal was to ask for more inclusiveness 3. I am sickened by what happend to BlackTwitter and I don't want it recur 4. But I can't speak for BlackTwitter nor should I 5. I apologize to black mastodon users for making such a poor comparison 6. I'm not endorsing "AI Slop" they were a foil to make my point 7. I'm certainly NOT trying to compare AI bros to Black twitter (but, as I said, I can see how people made that connection. I'm trying to correct that here)

@froztbyte "Go make your prompt-friendly server"

I think the larger issue is that yeah, you can go make your own server, and create whatever rules you like on it, and the rest of us can decide to block you, if we're not interested in seeing you in our home feed even by accident.

But practically, too many people are not content with just blocking and moving on. Some people get really tribal on here, and protective of the fediverse as if it was one cohesive community with one set of rules for everyone.

@froztbyte If a guy with a long standing career with probably 6 figure salary (or more) is butthurt over ordinary people not liking his takes, while having 6.4k followers, is "pathetic" the right word for that?
Asking as non-native english speaker.

@froztbyte What, precisely, is an "AI journalist" anyway?

Does he mean people who cover AI, or people who use AI while researching/writing?

@jzb You should probably ask the person who posted it instead of me
