Reaffirming our commitment to child safety in the face of European Union inaction

Today, because of the expiry of the ePrivacy derogation enabling the use of technology to detect child sexual abuse material (CSAM), Europe risks leaving children across the globe less protected from the most abhorrent harm. This concern is shared by a group of almost 250 child rights organizations and many others. For years, a number of technology companies have taken voluntary action to detect, remove and report CSAM including, where appropriate, through hash-matching technology — a widely utilized tool to prevent and disrupt real, ongoing harm to victims and survivors. This is not just a matter of law, but of protecting children. While EU institutions rightly expect technology companies to take action on child safety, the April 3 expiry of the derogation clouds the legal certainty that has helped responsible platforms try to protect our communities, safeguard child victims, and preserve the integrity of our services. We are disappointed by this irresponsible failure to reach an agreement to maintain established efforts to protect children online. As EU institutions continue to negotiate an immediate, interim solution and durable framework, signatory companies (Google, Meta, Microsoft, and Snap) reaffirm their continued commitment to protecting children and preserving privacy, and will continue to take voluntary action on our relevant Interpersonal Communication Services. We call on EU institutions to conclude negotiations on a regulatory framework as a matter of urgency. To learn more about how hash-matching and CSAM detection tools work, please join this upcoming webinar at 3PM CET on Friday, April 10th.

Google
We need to stop using all of these companies. OS, and why don’t we OS our own search engine? Because the corporate ones are all proper fucked now.

Easier said than done with the monopolies they have on it all. One by one they are all bending the knee.

Decentralisation is the only way. I’ve only just recently signed up on here, how does moderation etc work? Not to be lazy in asking but I was a bit thrown off by having to submit my email to sign up. I’ve also been trying Mirage after being taken down from Reddit and wasn’t asked for any personal information to sign up on there.

I am new here as well, I will have to check out this Mirage I have not heard of that, I did hear on here that there is an instance that does not require an email to sign up, it is a world related instance as I recall but I did not write it down.

But you can at least for the moment just make a new account on a new instance with the same email without anything following you, unless the moderators are on both instances, which is a pretty common occurrence.

I think the piefed developers are working on fucking you across the entire fediverse over the moderators’ decisions on any instance however.

Reddit keeps chasing me off as well, no permaban but they have made it pretty clear they don’t want me there. I imagine it is government related because I have nothing but overwhelmingly positive karma.

Mirage feels to me like the very OG Reddit. Even from a UI standpoint. They’ve built their own blockchain. So when I signed up there, I was given my own seed phrase to access the account vs having to give any of my own personal credentials. Seems a lot more privacy focussed.

Also the moderation there is more opt in/opt out than Reddit for example. No issues with mods like those clowns over on Reddit. Just wasn’t too pleased to see here I had to give my email to get on.

Check out mirage.talk and let me know your thoughts. 5RBG-CEW5 code should get you in!

What were reddit chasing you off for out of curiosity?

Oh, with me it’s hard to say, Israel is probably the main factor, but I go pretty hard against corporate interests and the government as well. As always, it’s mostly about Israel though. I used to get 6 months out of an account, after my first one lasted over a year, now I was down to 3 months, my new one got a violation in the first week for something that wasn’t against the rules. None of these violations are against the rules. It is bad faith.

Brother holy fuck lol if i could high 5 you rn I would. Exact same for me. I lost my Twitter account back in the Covid days and have seen the way it’s went with Elon regarding the Israel issue. Unbelievably hard to bite my tongue on there but I don’t want to lost my twitter account after getting it back.

Reddit it was gone in a blink. Mirage to its credit, they market themselves as an absolute free speech platform so i’ve found my takes being received a lot better on there on the israel issue. Reassuring af that I can finally vent somewhere online without fear of any blowback, if that makes sense

I will have to check that out, that’s what I want, I don’t care if people are mean to me, I Can Be Mean back, I’m actually better at being mean than they are.

Are there enough people to make it worthwhile though?

It’s relatively new but definitely growing a lot over the last few weeks bud! I’ve been finding myself enjoying it and checking it as much as I would my twitter during the day! Worth checking out 100%.
