It's way more banal than we could ever have imagined. Forget "Versaille Treaty". Forget "Great Depression". Pettiness is enough.
And forget indoctrination or secrecy and cover-ups. Throw random people into concentration camps and let them die in the terrible conditions all in the open and people just won't give a shit.
