Good to see some push-back on the completely unhinged plan to deploy 'sunlight on demand' reflective satellites (which would allow for companies to flood 5-6 square km of land at night with sunlight), and also Musk's plan to launch 1M AI workload satellites.

Four international scientific societies spanning 2500 members warn these projects could further disrupt human & animal sleep patterns, & cause havoc to oceanic & terrestrial ecosystems.

Satellite mirror plans could disrupt sleep and ecosystems worldwide, scientists say

Letters to US agency raise concerns over tech firm’s plans to use reflective satellites and expand numbers in low Earth orbit

Remember that fleck of paint that almost blew a hole in a window of the ISS?
It was traveling at ~28,000kph.

The irony of Musk wanting to spew GPUs into orbit is that it lays a future minefield that could undermine all his supposed plans of off-world migration. A killing cage of dead satellite debris impossible to monitor.

"That could create a near-impenetrable layer of debris that would make space launches so dangerous it would essentially trap humans on Earth."

‘This feels fragile’: how a satellite-smashing chain reaction could spiral out of control

Today, the space around Earth can no longer be considered empty. More than 30,000 objects are in orbit, and that figure is rising exponentially

@JulianOliver No no, you've got it all wrong. His plan is to deorbit and burn up his spent trash in the atmosphere. Probably get rich investing in toxic air filters while he's at it.
