If it is indeed the case that any country's EIDAS (electronic identification, authentication, and trust services) implementation requires an account with a third party tech company - Apple, or Google, or whatever - then that is repugnant and reprehensible.
@neil My understanding is that working without Google and Apple is a version two feature on the roadmap for the developers. Development timeline was very tight in law so they didn't have time to implement and test features for a small percentage of the users. They know they have to and will do so later.
