Four solid months into my Linux journey, and I had a realization:

I will never need Microsoft Windows again, for anything. I really cannot express how liberating this feels.

It feels like escaping the matrix.

@prime It's been a little bit harder for me because I'm a gamer and have had to deal with some annoyances, but in the end I just don't ever want to ever go back. Even if Microsoft suddenly realizes what they've done and the way they screwed over every single one of their users and chased away people who used their software for literal decades and makes a Windows 12 that goes back to XP/7 goodness, it's too late. The bridges are all burned. I will never ever trust Microsoft ever again no matter what they do.

Plus the feeling of actually owning my own blasted PC truly is hard to underestimate. No fighting against systems determined to force stuff on me against my will... (Except systemd FFS.)

@nazokiyoubinbou @prime I haven’t tried it on Linux yet but it performs very well on other OS’, so you could consider trying the free GeForce Now tier giving you access to lots of games from Steam and other stores

@Webwasp @prime I'm not really sure why you suggested a platform like that to me. The issues I have are things such as really old games or things with lack of good support from devs. Usually minor bugs these days. Most of the hard stuff has been worked out over the years.

Geforce Now is just more limited, not less. As it is I have access to almost my full library and have only had troubles in one or two games that won't be available on Geforce Now. What's more, they're my games on my PC and keep working even if my Internet connection goes down. (I don't touch Denuvo crap.)

Oh, and my AMD GPU can do raytracing too, though I generally consider it not worth it whether nVidia or AMD.

Any launcher that supports Proton/Wine-GE is good. Heroic, Faugus, even Steam.

@nazokiyoubinbou @prime Your post mentioned that switching to Linux was harder as a gamer, so I thought you might be missing some games not available on Linux. One option could be using GeForce Now. That’s all .. have a nice day 🙂

@Webwasp Well, to save you further uncomfortable times in the future, if I might suggest, if someone says something about having had an issue with a thing ever, the answer isn't necessarily to immediately jump in and tell them to use a commercial service that actually limits their options more. Especially not in context of a thing that's already about escaping commercial stuff...

You didn't even know the nature of the problems I was referencing. I wouldn't have been upset if you'd just asked. If you thought it was availability I would have clarified.

I warn you now because you'll get some much much less polite responses from many others.
