In my opinion, the only acceptable intention to do so is to show your attitude towards their effort on field. It is the same as leaving a theatre during the play - insulting.

It was at St Andrews watching Tranmere Rovers v Birmingham City in around 1990. My last train back to Stafford meant I had to leave a few minutes early and run back to New Street station. I still feel like a bit of a part-time fan because of it! 😄
