Artemis II will fly by the moon on Monday. Here’s what to expect

For the first time in more than 50 years, humans will enter the lunar sphere of influence and potentially break the record for the farthest distance ever traveled by astronauts.

#Astronaut Christina Koch is apparently awake and notified Mission Control that a photo of the #Moon is ready for download from the #Orion spacecraft. They're discussing their tasks for the day. This is an early the start of an exciting day for the #NASA and #CSA astronauts and for humanity because humans are going to circle the far side of the Moon for the first time since 1972. This #ArtemisII mission is similar to the #Apollo 8 and 13 missions.

Artemis II lifted off from Kennedy Space Center in Florida on April 1, 2026, and will reach the lunar sphere of influence—when the Moon's gravity exerts more force on the Orion spacecraft than the Earth's gravity—on April 5, before flying around the far side of the Moon on April 6.
