You and one other person are trapped on a desert island with no other source of sustenance but coconuts. The other person controls all the coconuts. If he demands you suck his dick for coconuts, are you actually being given a choice to suck dick for coconuts?
The obvious answer is that the choice is only nominal; that you are effectively being coerced into acceding to the coconut owner’s demands.
now we’re just having a great time at the island with unlimited coconuts.
did we accidentally create the perfect economy? I love bonobo economic theory
Wake up babe, new coconut just dropped
Interestingly enough, when the medieval North African author Ibn Batutta was traveling through the Indian Ocean, he noted the Maldives where most of the production was centered around coconuts (which could be used for fiber and oils as well as food) and fish. While Ibn Batutta could be culturally chauvinist in his reflections at times, he regarded the coconut economy as rather ingenious, and the coconut as a uniquely useful plant because of its high yield and many uses. He ate a coconut-heavy diet while he was in the Maldives and said it was very invigorating! He said a diet in coconuts made people brave and have good sex.
Maybe the coconut economy IS the perfect economy…
