2012 was the last time I went south to the ice.

One expedition weirdness: times when a person with [skills I have] was needed and people were running all over the ship searching for *anyone*. But no not you we will find someone!

Much later I read a report where experience /skills/certs were listed. In my row? nothing. At the time I had HUET, current wilderness 1st aid, qctive rock climber/rope skills, also 3 previous field expeditions...

...all erased in the record.

....I don't know why and don't really care anymore. It did, however, fit a pattern. And have lasting impact. That report might be used as a reference for other work later. It establishes a baseline /credibility in the system.

I was astounded to read it. Plus other weird shit in the same report.

So, if you're new to polar work, make sure your skills are recognised!

If you're in a management role in polar or any work, avoid erasing your most experienced people!
