You know the Apple Scribe thermal printer for the IIc? Did that ever work with the Mac, or was it Apple 2 only? #RetroComputing

And does the thermal head on these sorts of printers work with fax-style thermal paper? Or does it absolutely *need* those silly cartridges?

(I used to have one of these printers waaaay back in the depths of time, but it disappeared long, long, long ago)

@billgoats IIRC, when I wrote some Python to drive mine, it worked with the ImageWriter commands. And it will print with thermal fax roll paper.

@paulrickards Oh, cool, that's encouraging! And there are so many crappy thermal A4 printers on sites like aliexpress that the paper is cheap and plentiful.

Now I'll just have to keep an eye out for one that's not painfully expensive ;)

@billgoats Apparently I connected it to a Pi with CUPS and did the wireless printing thing with it. This was posted to the BadSite in Nov 2020.

So I think that means if the CUPS IWII driver works with it, maybe the Mac one will?

@paulrickards 😻 Even CUPS is plenty good enough! The big thing is that it's not got some weird IIc-only interface going on.
