Any Recommendations For Electrically Hight-Adjustable Desks? - Lemmy

Heyho, I am from Germany and currently moving into a new apartment. I am going to throw out my old desk as it is too low and want to upgrade to a height adjustable one. While IKEA has some options I wonder whether others have recommendations for solid brands to check out.

Not “Fully” (US brand, I’m from France but they used to have EU office but it seems to be part of Herman Miller) I’ve had constant issues with their circuitry and now with the leg mechanism jamming itself. As soon as it finally dies I will replace it with another brand.

I had an IKEA Idasen standing desk for years. Worked great, no wobble, ok price. I used a custom desk top, which was easy to do too. The only thing to consider, and the reason why I got a new one in the end is that its load capacity was not enough for all my stuff on the table. It still worked, but was super slow. I do have a lot of stuff on my desk though (2x widescreen, 2x heavy keyboard, 2x docking station, 1x tower pc, microphone arm, audio interface etc), so this might not be an issue for everyone.

When I ordered desks at Ergotopia I had to learn that their frames are manufactured in China. They had a German manufactured frame a while ago but apparently these were too expensive so nobody bought them. At least that’s what the very nice sales person told me on the phone. That said it is a German company and the frames seems to be of high quality. (Also, I couldn’t find any frames made in EU.)

We have a Progressive and a Desky. Dual 24-inch or single 34-wide on them with clamped support arms, but compute is external to the desk so it’s just screens and UI.

The dual-motor progressive works fast and quiet, but its obstruction sensor is always getting tripped so it’s not easy to move it between favourite settings without a few tries. The Desky is slower and louder, but ultimately smoother. The surface choices seemed to be MDF+wallpaper ‘grain’ for each - ugh - or thankfully the progressive had a bamboo-plywood option. We marred the desky wallpaper surface on day 1 and we see it every day.

I got an Ergolutions PRIMUS Speed several years back. I also mounted their Dual Gasdruck Monitorarm that carries two 32 inch screens. The computer is a laptop though, so it does not add much to the weight. Other than that i always have lots of things laying on my desk as i am not very tidy with it. It works flawlessly and i am quite happy. I also mounted wheels and lots of cable management. Happy to answer questions.

Looks very food - also price wise. I had to look into using melanine instead of real wood, but sounds like that is not a big disadvantage.

Full disclosure, Gemini claims that the frame is actually a rebranded desk frame from a major Chinese OEM called LUMI (Lumi Legend Corporation), but I did not investigate further on that.

As for the plate, you can also get just the frame from Ergolutions and go to your local Baumarkt for a suitable piece of wood for the plate.

I do have my computer on top, but like mentioned, it is just a laptop. Anyway, i believe weight wise there is still heaps of margin and a full tower would not nearly make it sweat.

I’ve never seen anything better than these. However, I’d be surprised if any normal person could afford them:
