For all the talk of high-tech warfare, AI-targeting & drones as transformative of battle(s) it will not have escaped your notice that Iran has caused the maximum amount of global disruption (surely one of they clear defensive aims) by the simple expedient of mining the Strait of Hormuz (mines, of course, being a naval war technology of some history).

Whatever you think of Iran, they've managed this part of their defence pretty well & outfoxed the Tangerine Tyrant!

@ChrisMayLA6 I would have never predicted myself saying this, but it seems that Iran is the only thing that can stop this madness, with these two dictators threatening either Europe and Latin America, or commiting genocide around the Middle East. The UN, our governments have been completely castrated.

@timagal @ChrisMayLA6 not only closing the strait (with or without mines), but directly/physically targeting data centers to paralyze digital core services in the region and beyond. Now, cloud providers will have to treat civilian regional data centers the same ad military centers in terms of reinforcement, physical protection and security, Instead of just packing warehouses with cardboard walls with servers 🙄

@hszakher @ChrisMayLA6 Hans, they are already embroiled with the military (the Minab school massacre was AI at work), but they already have been targetted, and some of them put out of service (AWS)...

@timagal @ChrisMayLA6 I know, but I am not talking about it from "software" side. This war will cause cloud providers to build data centers in bunkers and reinforced concrete walls ...etc just to provide "commodity" computing for banking and government services. This will significantly increase the cost of doing business, hopefully rendering the whole centralized cloud concept ridiculous

@ChrisMayLA6 I remember someone (maybe Bruce Schneier) pointing out that the USA has a much larger attack surface than smaller less developed countries such as North Korea and so has more to lose from conflict.

Bruce's son was in town for a while. He seemed quite taken aback when I asked him if Bruce was his Dad. Perhaps he was expecting a smaller attack surface in a smaller and remote country.
